Marriage Equality – Finally

Rainbow FlagThe Supreme Court handed down the decision last week that all people in the United States of America have the right to marry regardless of their sexual orientation.  I am thrilled for so many Americans who have been battling for the opportunity to live happily ever after like so many others who have committed to each other in matrimony.  Many people think it’s just about having the right to say I do but it is so much more than just those words.  It is about building a life with someone and not losing everything should something tragic happen to the person you love.  It is about making decisions for your partner when illness occurs.  It is about not having someone’s family come in and separate you from your mate as if you meant nothing and minimize what you contributed to the relationship.  It is about having a say in the future of the person you love. It is about all the entitlements that other married couples have.  It is about acceptance no matter where you go within the fifty states. There are many people that I know who fit into this category that I love and respect that are relatives and people that I call friends who are like family.  Acceptance is something that everyone desires, deserves and understands.  Marriage equality is finally extended to all and it amounts to much more than just I do.
