I Don’t Know How To Feel About The Queen

Queen Elizabeth II was the longest reigning monarch in the history of the monarchy. She reigned over 15 commonwealth countries. Many of which are predominately black in population. Until her recent death, I believe that many of her constituents loved her. It is given me mixed emotions about the whole situation. First, I was sad, then I was happy she gets to take her rest, and now, I don’t know how to feel about the Queen.

Commonwealth countries overseen by British rule include islands throughout the Caribbean. In recent days, representatives have spoken out against the monarchy claiming ill-treatment. I’ve been to some of these islands that are on the list. All are beautiful in their own way, and many are impoverished. Could Queen Elizabeth II have suggested better conditions for her subjects on those islands? The answer is probably no. If I’m not mistaken, the monarch’s role is symbolic. The Queen of England didn’t rule anything or anyone. I don’t know how to feel about the Queen.

Most of us under the age of 70 know no other monarch. The impression she gave was dignified, classy, and open-minded. The Queen was a listener. She kept her opinions to herself but made herself available as an audience for others. Making people feel welcome and comfortable was her specialty. It is the trait that I enjoyed seeing whenever she crossed my television screen. Yet, with all the commotion from the commonwealth of late, I’m torn. I don’t know how to feel about the Queen.

Let’s all remember Queen Elizabeth II as the woman who lived a life filled with the admiration of a nation and the respect of her family. People have lined the streets of Scotland to show respect. People have gathered at Buckingham Palace to feel closer to the family. God welcomes the Queen.
