Does Hillary Clinton Match Up?

Hillary+Clinton+Hillary+Clinton+Holds+Campaign+dx1Wv8xe2sylI was recently challenged by a friend to name ten things that Hillary Clinton has accomplished in her political career outside of being a popular female candidate.  So I was hard pressed because I myself am a Hillary supporter.  I began combing the web and New York Times archives for Hillary Clinton votes while she was in the Senate and initiatives that she came up with while she was First Lady but there were few and far in between and really nothing significant.  I think this is a case of if you cannot find anything solid then why all the hype about Hillary’s second run at the Presidency. I decided to take a different approach to the question.  I went back and looked up the achievements of all of the last six Presidents to include the present one to see if Hillary matches up with past and present leadership on the campaign trail to the White House.

The last six people to hold the position of President of the United States of America are Jimmy Carter, Ronald Regan, George H.W. Bush, William Clinton, George W. Bush and currently Barrack Obama. Let’s look at each person to determine what political accomplishments transpired prior to winning their respective Presidential election bid.  We are going to keep this going in chronological order and compare each individual’s credits to that of Hillary Clinton to see if she matches up to be a good candidate for the highest position in the United States of America. Hillary does not have a military service under her belt.  She was a Senator of New York for eight years and she is a firm advocate for the needs of children.  Hillary Clinton has the tenacity and drive to do a good job.  She was a good social representative for the United States in her role of Secretary of State during President Obama’s first term.  This is all we know for sure about what Hillary brings to the table politically.  The others who actually achieve the presidency shape up as follows:

Let’s start with Jimmy Carter who is from the state of Georgia and held the occupation as a Farmer. He was the 39th President of the United States of America. Jimmy Carter had two stints in the Senate in the mid-sixties before becoming Governor of Georgia in the early seventies.  During his time as a Senator he was in favor of Brown vs. Board of Education.  The education and well-being of all southern children was important to him and as Governor he continued his efforts to make sure that all children were cared for regardless of what part of Georgia they lived.  Jimmy Carter served in the military for seven years in the Navy.  All of this transpired on his road to the becoming President of the United States of America in 1977.

Ronald Wilson Regan was our 40th President of the United States of America and his home state was California.  He served in the Army Reserves and eventually was called to active duty in the early 1940’s. His career was in the entertainment industry as an actor and radio personality.  Ronald Regan did have political ambition and eventually became the Governor of California in 1967.  During his tenure as Governor Ronald Regan did sign into legislation the Family Law Act that grants a no fault divorce in the state of California.  Ronald Regan won the Presidency in 1981.

George Herbert Walker Bush was our 41st President of the United States of America and his home state is Texas.  He was a successful business prior to any political aspirations.  He also had a military career in the Navy. He wanted to get into politics and did so as the Chairman of the Republican Party in the 1964 and had a desire to create laws. George H.W. Bush continued to pursue his political dreams with a couple of failed attempts for the Senate and Congress.  He eventually became Ronald Regan’s running mate the year that he won election in 1981.  George H.W. Bush went onto become President of the United States of America in 1989.

William Jefferson Clinton was our 42nd President of the United States of America and his home state was Arkansas.  He was a successful lawyer and educator prior to his foray into politics.  He did become the Governor of Arkansas in 1978.  He has always taken an interest in the welfare of children in his state.  The biggest achievement during his Governorship was the reformation of the education system in the state of Arkansas.  He set his political sights high and won his presidential bid in 1993.

George Walker Bush was our 43rd President of the United States of America and his home state is Texas.  He too was a successful businessman and had military service as part of the Air National Guard.  The politic bug bit him and he tried to become a participant in the House of Representatives and lost. He ran for Governor of Texas in 1995 and won the seat.   The most significant thing that George W. Bush accomplished as Governor is signing in state law requiring electric retailers to buy energy from renewable sources, this made the state of Texas richer by becoming the leading producer of wind powered electricity.  He won his presidential bid in 2001.

Barrack Hussein Obama is the 44th President of the United States of America and his home state is Illinois.  He was an educator and an activist. He set out to change things in his community and decided to run for office and initially he lost the election for a seat in the House of Representatives. He did not lose faith and he actually was elected to the Senate in 1996.  Barrack Obama’s strived to be the leader of our country and with swift new age campaigning he won his presidential bid in 2009. He is our current seated President in his second term.

The last six Presidents of this country all have one thing in common tenacity, advocate of the needs of American children and the desire to create policy.  Three of the last belong to the Democratic Party and three were Republicans.  Two of the Democratic Presidents were successful and made great strides during their Presidency to the benefit of the American people.  President Obama still has another year under his belt to create or evoke change for the American people.  The Republicans Presidents created more issues, made the rich richer and the middle class poor.  The most notable of the three Republican Presidents was Ronald Regan because the Cold War ended under his watch and his effort to reduce federal taxation through Reganomics was a hit as well.

They all had political ambitions and were not deterred when running for office did not garner the results wanted or having legislation struck down when it was a cause that they believed in heart and soul.  I think in that respect Hillary Clinton has a good a chance at being a good President of the United States of America because she matches up to the past and present leadership of this country just fine.  In the response to the initial question name ten things that Hillary Clinton accomplished in her political career, the answer it prior to becoming the President of the United States of America lack of a record does not determine what value you can bring to government just ask the last six leaders of this country.
