On April 17, 2021, Employed Professionals out of Virginia Beach, VA, hosted the Forever Young Adult Prom 2021. The original date for the event was in the year 2020. Due to unforeseen circumstances, it was moved several times until it landed on the calendar a year later. The people were beautiful, the venue lovely, and the atmosphere was just perfect. The adult prom was my first outing in 2021.
The event was a prom for those who had never attended a prom during their school years. It was a chance to relive a moment in time for others with a better outcome. For whatever reason, it was a time to dress up, go out, and have a good time. Good food, good music, and good people are always a good mix.
The outfit, The Food, The Music
I decided to make a floor-length pleated skirt for the occasion. I paired with a sequin top and some peep-toed patent-leather low-heel shoes. After a year of isolation, I almost forgot how it feels to put on hard-bottom shoes. I’ll admit, I was a little nervous about attending, but it would be an intimate affair where social distancing, masking wearing, temperature taking, and hand sanitizing were enforced. Indeed, all of those things occurred, and I felt safe.
A ticket for the event included dinner, dancing, and an open bar. The venue was spacious, elegantly decorated, and handled catering in-house. Employed Professionals hired a company, Crybaby Sweets, for the dessert table. It was a beautiful presentation. The cake was moist with just the right about of sweetness. The chocolate-covered strawberries were big and burst with juice with every bite.
The disc jockey (DJ) kept the music flowing from start to finish. He started with jazz interludes through the cocktail hour and dinner service. Then he glided into dance music in a wide variety of musical genres from rhythm and blues, country, pop, and line dance favorites.
There was a couple crowned as King and Queen of the adult prom. We crowned a Prince and Princess of the adult prom. Many let their hair down and dance the night away. I had a great time. The Forever Young Adult Prom will be an annual event. I’m already planning my outfit for next year. You can check out the Facebook page to get details for the date in 2022.
