The New Commander-in-Chief and Another First for America

The new commander-in-chief and the new Vice PresidentOn January 20, 2021, Joseph R. Biden, jr., became the forty-sixth President of the United States of America. Although his selection was solidified months ago, it felt like we would never get to this day. The country is fractured. America has so much work ahead. The new president’s challenge is to repair, balance, and mold the country towards a more perfect union. We hail the new commander-in-chief and welcome another first for America.

For the first time, we have a woman as Vice President of the United States. Kamala D. Harris will forever, going forward, have the title of Madam Vice President. For the second time, we have a person of color in high office. She is a well accomplished legal mind and eloquent messenger. As much as we believe America shrinks, it shows growth with every passing day.

The celebration of the new Biden Administration is different from any other. First, we are in the middle of a pandemic. Second, the high-level security measures in place due to the unrest that emerged some weeks ago. President Biden insists that precautionary measures be in place to keep everyone in attendance safe. Everyone wore masks. Many are socially distanced. Most of the celebratory functions will be virtual.

Another first is the National Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman. Her verse and scheme envelop the moment. Ms. Gorman spoke of what was and what can be. Her speech and precision move the audience. It gave a feeling of hope for the rebirth of things that will come if we work together to allow it.

We welcome the new commander-in-chief and another first for America in a woman as his number two. History occurs again as America continues to evolve. We all look forward to what can change for the better of our country. Lets’ receive President Biden’s plan for us with an open mind.
