Sabrina Birdsong – Handmade greeting cardmaker

Today is national creativity day. We should celebrate every form of creativity today and every day as it is what keeps us evolving in the world. Art, music, film, books, and technology are all included when it comes to creativity. One of my favorite forms of creativity is those who can make things with their hands. It is always an achievement to create something from nothing but an idea or vision that you see in your mind’s eye.

A couple of years ago, I began admiring handmade greeting cards. Everything in the world today has become so impersonal. We invite people to events digitally; we send our condolences digitally, we shout out the ones we love, whether they are online or not through social media. What is happening to human connection or the lack thereof? We are becoming so disconnected.

My favorite handmade greeting card maker is Sabrina Birdsong, a woman who like many creatives is an introvert. Her footprint on social media is next to none, so I decided to interview her for this special occasion. She was hesitant at first, but after a little coaxing, she agreed to sit down and chat with me a bit about her passion for her creations and her business.

Below is the question and answer portion of our conversation that will give you a little insight into someone who’s creativity brings others joy.

The Motivation

Q: What drives your creativity?

Sabrina: I have always been drawn to old fashion art. It is beautiful. Vintage art stands the test of time, and what is old becomes new again.

Q: Why handmade greeting cards?

Sabrina: I started making my greeting cards in 2009 with construction paper and stickers. The following year, I discovered I could make my cards look professional. I use vintage looking materials (i.e., card stock, graphics) most people have not seen before.

Q: When did you decide to make handmade greeting cards a business?

Sabrina: I decided to make it a business in 2017. I have accumulated so many materials and tools to make my cards stand out. They look different each time.

The Venture

Q: How is your business?

Sabrina: Etsy hosts my greeting card shop online. My store currently has 144 cards for a variety of occasions. The customers are always pleased with their purchases. The reviews coming in are five-star, and my clients are worldwide. It humbles me to see how many people favorite selected cards online. To increase awareness, I attend family festivals in my area.

Q: Does it (creating the cards) still give you the same satisfaction as when you started?

Sabrina: Yes, I still get excited when I envision a new card I want to create. Bringing it to fruition gives me great satisfaction.

After an hour with Sabrina, I found myself ordering cards from her for Father’s day for my sons as well as my dad. The greatest thing about her online shop is the turnaround time, packaging, and wide selection. Every card is blank on the inside to give you the card giver a chance to include your message. Celebrate national creativity day with this handmade greeting cardmaker. Try SabrinaHandmadeCards for the special someone in your life. You will not be disappointed. #NationalCreativityDay
