Political Update 2016 Race

White houseFirst and foremost, my condolences to the Scalia family. As you are probably aware Antonin Scalia a Supreme Court justice passed away about a week ago.  Justice Scalia was appointed and confirmed during Ronald Regan’s tenure.  If I am correct, he was the longest sitting Supreme Court judge to date.   I found it very curious that many politicians were saying within hours of his passing that he not be replaced until after the general election at the end of the year.  This means the Supreme Court bench would have an open seat for just about a year.  Now with eight justices how is anything going to get done. You need the deciding opinion to get a ruling through.  If the case at hand is split down the middle then there is no ruling, correct?   Is there another governing body who can be a proxy when a seat is open?  Better still, most of the politicians voicing opinions on the matter just don’t want President Obama to pick the next justice. Who is that benefiting?  Not the people who have their cases on the docket to be reviewed the Supreme Court right now. Politics is so convoluted.

In the democratic race Martin O’Malley has final conceded that he does have a chance in hell to get the nomination so he has gracefully bowed out.  Senator Bernie Sanders is picking up steam and Hillary Clinton shall not be moved. Most polls show them neck and neck while others show Senator Sanders pulling away.  However, we all know that it is never over until it is over and they have a long journey ahead.   Now we know that the republican field was vast and wide.  Today we see that out of 17 initial participants only 6 remain.  Donald Trump still leads the pack as Ben Carson is lagging far behind.  Ted Cruz has moved up into the second position and Marco Rubio is gaining steam.  Jeb Bush is just in it for show at this point while John Kasich is looking like the dark horse.  The whole process is turning into a slug fest between them.  If I hear another liar, liar, pants on fire battle on national television it’s going to make my head numb so I’ll get the Motrin ready just as a precautionary measure.

The race itself is proving to be challenge for each candidate as no one seems to be running away with primary.  Senator Sanders is giving Hillary Clinton a run for the money.  Donald Trump has split the difference between Iowa and New Hampshire.  Everyone else on the republican side trails to the point of the shortening of the field.  Still this can be anyone’s game because with each state primary the balance can change giving another candidate a breath of new life.  Then we have what I’m calling the monkey wreck affect.  It has been rumored that should Hillary Clinton not garner enough votes to win the democratic nomination former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg will enter as an independent to swoop in and save the day. Now what makes him think that he could convince the majority of the 50 states to vote for him?  I think it is a far-fetched theory and I’m all for confidence but that is just crazy.  Of course, Donald Trump also threatens to run as an independent should he not win the republican nomination.  The super-rich always have their hands in everything when all we want is a far shot for the average Joe.  We are going to find out how this all shakes out over the next couple of weeks.  Who knows we could all be pleasantly surprised or stunned into recluse.
